Dr. Liang Chen's current research focuses on using synchrotron X-ray three-dimensional imaging and X-ray scattering techniques to study the dynamic behavior of composite rubber materials reinforced with carbon black and silica, including natural rubber and silicone rubber. He tracks in situ the crystallization behavior of rubber molecular chains under dynamic conditions, the alternating soft-hard network formed by crystallization, and their relationship with the mechanical properties of the materials. He also examines the fracture, slippage, and elastic deformation of the three-dimensional carbon black filler network and their quantitative relationship with the energy dissipation in the composites. His research has provided a deeper understanding of the fundamental properties of rubber under dynamic environments and the mechanisms of reinforcement and toughening of composites through nanoparticle reinforcement. Additionally, he has gained significant insights into enhancing composite material performance through technical methods and formulation improvements. His work is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, key projects of the Joint Fund, and sub-projects of national key projects.
